MLB The Show 18 – Sony Interactive
The SAM creative team was recently approached by Sony Interactive to create a distinctive and compelling composition for their then-upcoming blockbuster Major League Baseball title for PlayStation 4, The Show 18. They wanted a piece that had an epic “sports” sound that included modern electronic and urban elements.
So we went to work, collaborating with players from the Dallas and Fort Worth Symphony Orchestras, as well as renowned beats producer Adrian Boeckeler, who has worked with the likes of Snoop Dog and 50 Cent. Adrian and his team, known collectively as Anno Domini Nation have a featured catalog in our production music library The Vault.
But it didn’t stop with a great piece of music. In the world of video games, implementation is key. In order to accommodate the needs of the team at Sony Interactive, the theme was mixed in quad, with stereo fold-down, and all versions of the piece were delivered in both quad and stereo stem mixes to allow for event-triggered, dynamic, real-time mixing by the game’s audio engine.
The result is an exciting theme that’s as big and thrilling as the game itself! We couldn’t be happier with it. Check it out, and let us know what you think!
